QUARANTINE DREAM

Heard about the rough disease that’s soon on its way,

Round up your family, friends and neighbours and listen to what I say.

The symptoms are a fever, cough and shortness of breath that fails to cease,

It will strike into the hearts of nations,

Airborne from the East.

Hey! Oh hey! Whatever does it mean?

We’re locking ourselves away in our own Quarantine Dream.

Everybody’s still confused on the trouble that’s about,

We have to stay home for 14 days and already I want out.

The unprepared cue with their trollies at later times,

They push and shove, share and love at lengthy checkout lines.

Panic ensues the supermarkets, lack of sanitizer makes shoppers frenzy and sob,

They hoarded all the toilet paper, but kitchen roll still does the job.

Hey! Oh hey! Whatever does it mean?

We’re locking ourselves away in our own Quarantine Dream.

Ration every morsel of our water and food,

Although I’m feeling housebound, it gives me time to plan and brood.

The pandemic has closed all restaurants, pubs, and cancelled football matches,

Government chatter tells us the army’s coming soon to batten down the hatches.

No public gatherings or social events for 12 weeks or more,

But luckily it won’t fathom me, because I was always anti-social before.

Hey! Oh hey! Whatever does it mean?

We’re locking ourselves away in our own Quarantine Dream.

I always wear my snood to defend myself against the elements wherever I roam,

Now everybody’s wearing one and I no longer feel alone!

The pain runs deep, for all the loved ones we have lost,

Every day it’s getting harder to mourn.

But when the push comes to shove, Humanity steps up to the task,

And I’m thankful to wake up to another dawn…

Hooray! Hooray! We now know what it means!

We’ll finish unlocking ourselves away, from our own Quarantine Dreams.

To be a Prepper, eat, drink and sing!

Through quarantine every bit of it!

But let this be a wakeup call, to keep alive the Human spirit!
